With the introduction of the 2018 Mercedes-AMG GT R, the GT triad will be complete, according to Mercedes-AMG. But wait, isn’t there more to the story? The GT went from the SLS GT to the GT S, and now the GT R comes out of the closet. When is the 2017 Mercedes-AMG GT United States release date, and why is it being kept so quiet?
Release
Mercedes-Benz has officially stated that the Mercedes-AMG GT will be available again by the end of this summer. It will exist as the entry-level model for the GT lineup, but it will be far from tame with 456 horsepower and 443 lb-ft of torque. What is the appeal to the GT over the GT S or the GT R? Well, price, for one. Street functionality, for two.
Handcrafted AMG 4.0L Biturbo V8
The GT will have the same engine that the GT S and the GT R share. The difference is that it will be tuned down, not only to save on the overall price of the car, but also to be more friendly to drivers who won’t be driving their GTs on the track. After all, the GT R looks and drives incredibly, until you get stuck at a busy red light and accidentally shred your tires in front of a police officer. With only 456 horsepower instead of 503 in the GT S and 577 in the GT R, the 2017 Mercedes-AMG is more than you need to show off around town.
Curb Weight
The other big difference between the three GTs is the curb weight. The GT will be lighter than the GT S, but heavier than the GT. Therefore, even though it has less power than the GT S, it will probably keep up pretty well.
